(ECNS) -- Zhuhai Airport’s international cargo port in South China’s Guangdong Province has handled over 15,000 metric tons of international air cargo in the first year since it was temporarily opened to international freight operations, according to its operator Zhuhai Transportation Holding Group Co., Ltd. on Thursday.
The port has launched eight routes to Southeast Asia and South Asia, including Hanoi, Delhi, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, with more than 70 weekly flights. Over half the cargo comes from ecommerce and manufacturing hubs in Dongguan and Foshan.
Officials said the port complements the Greater Bay Area’s airport cluster and will expand flights to Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South Asia to build a “four-hour logistics circle” in the region.
