(ECNS) -- China's domestically developed new-generation deep-water multi-functional offshore engineering vessel "Hai Yang Shi You 292" (Ocean Oil 292) was officially named and delivered in Qidong, Jiangsu Province, on Friday, according to Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC).
The 126-meter vessel displaces more than 17,600 tons and has a deck area equal to five basketball courts. Equipped with a DP-2 dynamic positioning system, electric azimuth thrusters, a 400-ton crane and a 3,000-ton cable reel, it can perform deep-water development, construction, maintenance and emergency response worldwide.
Jia Lujin, project manager for the vessel's construction at COOEC, said automated monitoring systems allow periodic unattended operation, while energy-saving designs cut fuel use by 15% and extend range to 15,000 nautical miles. Built by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries in 15 months, the vessel passed sea trials with performance exceeding design specifications.
