Head-of-state diplomacy plays irreplaceable, strategic guiding role in China-U.S. relations: FM

(ECNS) -- Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable and strategic guiding role in China-U.S. relations, said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Tuesday at a regular press conference.

Guo made the remarks after U.S. President Donald Trump said he expects to visit China this year or shortly afterwards.

Guo noted that China always follows the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation to handle and grow its relations with the U.S. We will also firmly safeguard our sovereignty, security and development interests.

Guo said that China hopes the U.S. will work with it to jointly promote the steady, sound, and sustainable development of bilateral ties.
