In the first half of the year, FAW-Volkswagen topped the sales of passenger cars in China for six consecutive months, through strategically coordinating the scientific epidemic prevention and the subsequent production recovery. While leading the automobile market, FAW-Volkswagen greatly drove the recovery of the entire industry chain and the regional economy, making it “a top performer” in the automobile industry as recognized by the market.

Recently, a number of journalists from Jilin Province and Changchun City visited the FAW-Volkswagen Changchun Base. Liu Yigong, Member of the Board of Directors, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co.,Ltd.,and Dr. André Stoffels, First Vice President (Finance) of FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co.,Ltd., attended the event and had in-depth talks with the media on how to continuously expand global cooperation, beef up investment and R&D activities, optimize and upgrade the industrial chain and drive digital transformation of the company.

Enhance global exchanges and create more value for the industry’s new four modernizations

According to Dr. André Stoffels, First Vice President (Finance) of FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co.,Ltd., FAW-Volkswagen maintains close ties with the global R&D community. This will help improve quality of all of the company’s systems. In the face of new challenges and opportunities that industrial transformation brings, FAW-Volkswagen will continue to enhance global exchanges and strengthen cooperation with global partners. It is noteworthy that the MEB plant in the South China base has been remodeled and the first MEB model will be rolled off the assembly line this year. This move also marks the brand new start of FAW-Volkswagen’s electric vehicle business.

Dr. André Stoffels is very confident about the prospect of China's automotive market. He said that the Chinese government has done a very good job in the epidemic prevention and control, making China a country that has been affected by the epidemic for a relatively shorter period of time. The Chinese market is predicted to remain as the world's largest single automotive market in the future. The FAW-Volkswagen Sino-German team will continue to deepen cooperation, promote digital and electrified transformation, and drive the auto industry's "new four modernizations" through a win-win progress.

Continue to increase investment and to enhance R&D, further strengthen the industrial cluster

Liu Yigong, Member of the Board of Directors, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co.,Ltd. , reviewed and summarized the results of the first half year. He said that FAW-Volkswagen’s great H1 result was achieved through sincere Sino-German cooperation, with the strong support of the Jilin Provincial Government and the Changchun Municipal Government, driven by the "full value chain" co-creation and cooperation. It was an achievement of all FAW-Volkswagen employees working closely together.

According to Liu Yigong, FAW- Volkswagen will continue to beef up investment and R&D activities. In the next two years, FAW-Volkswagen will invest 17.7 billion Yuan in the Changchun base to build the base camp into an exemplar for the six factories in five bases and further expand the industrial cluster. He also pointed out that FAW-Volkswagen, as a representative of joint ventures, has always been focusing on "localised R&D across the entire value chain" and continuously improving its R&D capabilities. After the ground-breaking completion of the new technology development center, FAW-Volkswagen will be able to conduct the complete development work, except for the wind tunnel tests, laying a more solid foundation for the company's future development.
