Tianjin and Guizhou lead GDP growth

Tianjin municipality and Guizhou province led GDP growth in the first three quarters, while Beijing and Shanghai were at the bottom of the 31 province-level regions, according to figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The coastal city of Tianjin posted GDP of 1.02 trillion yuan ($167.76 billion) and Guizhou province posted GDP of 511 billion yuan in the first three quarters of this year. Both of the two regions led the country with a year-on-year GDP growth rate of 12.6 percent.

Chongqing municipality ranked third in GDP growth with a year-on-year growth rate of 12.4 percent.

Both Beijing and Shanghai reported a year-on-year growth of 7.7 percent in GDP in the first three quarters of the year. Despite their relatively slow growth, Beijing's GDP was about 1.38 trillion yuan and Shanghai.s was about 1.55 trillion yuan as of the end of September.

According to statistics, the GDP of Guangdong province, one of the economic powerhouses in coastal China, was the largest of the 31 provinces and autonomous regions. In the first three quarters, Guangdong province reported a GDP of 4.45 trillion yuan, followed by Jiangsu province's 4.19 trillion yuan and Shandong province's 3.96 trillion yuan.
