From November 6 to 21, 2025, the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) is taking place in Belém, Brazil.

Speaking on China's green transition in the "W.E. Talk" program with China News Network, Wang Binbin, founding director of the Climate Future Global Innovation Lab at Peking University's Institute of Carbon Neutrality and a Yale World Fellow, highlighted that China is racing against time in its pursuit of carbon goals.

As the world's largest developing country, China is advancing its energy transition at an unprecedented pace, Wang said.

She noted that carbon neutrality represents a systemic transformation, one that touches on political, economic, and social structures. While rapidly expanding renewable energy, China is also steadily reducing its reliance on coal.

Wang further emphasized a key detail in China's commitment: its goal is "Before 2060," not "By 2060."

"We chose the word 'Before' to demonstrate our ambition for deeper emission cuts," she said. (Lin Zhuowei, Xue Lingqiao)
