Fujian Coast Guard calls on Taiwan side to communicate in Mandarin

(ECNS) -- A law enforcement officer of the Fujian Coast Guard has urged an officer of a Taiwan naval vessel to use Mandarin while the latter used English to communicate during their encounter on the sea.

People from both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese, the Fujian Coast Guard officer said.

Urging the Taiwan side not to misjudge the situation, the officer further warned that pursuing "Taiwan independence" leads to a dead end and that armed confrontation has no future.

The coast guard of East China's Fujian Province organized a law enforcement patrol in the waters off the Taiwan Island, Matsu and Wuqiu islands starting Monday.
