(ECNS) -- The Chinese mainland is one of the safest regions in the world, and Taiwan compatriots working, living and traveling on the Chinese mainland have experienced a sense of security and happiness, Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian said Wednesday.
Zhu made the remarks at a regular press conference when asked to comment on the recent incident in which Shanghai traffic police reached Taiwan actor Ming Dao and returned a handbag he and his team had lost.
Ming Dao presented a banner to Shanghai traffic police to express his gratitude, saying, "It happens only in China. Nothing in our bag was lost. This shows that our public security is good." The remarks received widespread praise from netizens on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Upholding the concept that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family, the Chinese mainland will create better conditions for cross-Strait personnel exchanges and tourism exchanges and cooperation, and introduce more facilitation measures, Zhu said.
"We warmly welcome more Taiwan compatriots to visit the Chinese mainland, experience the splendid Chinese culture, see the Chinese mainland's development, and share in the fruits of its development," Zhu said.
