(ECNS) -- Taiwan, as part of China, has no right to join the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian said Wednesday.
Zhu made the remarks at a regular press conference when asked to comment on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' call for governments to support Taiwan's participation in Interpol, ahead of the organization's 94th General Assembly to be held in Hong Kong from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3.
China's position on Taiwan's participation in international organizations' activities is consistent and clear: the issue must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle, Zhu said.
China and Interpol have made proper arrangements for Taiwan to participate in cooperation and activities under the organization's framework. Channels for information sharing and case cooperation between Taiwan's police agencies and the National Central Bureaus of various countries are unobstructed, Zhu said.
She noted that the DPP authorities have repeatedly engaged in political manipulation over the so-called issue of Taiwan's participation in activities of international organizations, attempting to deceive people on the island. Their separatist provocations in pursuit of "Taiwan independence" are doomed to fail, Zhu said.
