(ECNS) — A direct shipping route linking Peru's Chancay Port with Shanghai has shortened the transit time for Peruvian organic bananas from more than 30 days to 22 days, helping fresh produce reach Chinese buyers faster ahead of the ninth China International Import Expo, exhibitors said.
The Chancay-Shanghai route, which began operating in December 2024, typically takes about 23 days, about 10 days shorter than conventional sea routes, according to the Shanghai municipal government. Smart refrigerated containers can adjust oxygen, carbon dioxide and ethylene levels to help preserve fruit freshness during transit.
Peruvian fresh bananas entered the Chinese market for the first time in September. A Thai young coconut product featuring an easy-open drinking hole will also make its global debut at the event.
The expo will run Nov. 5-10 in Shanghai. In all, 4,142 companies from 148 countries and regions have signed up, with the business exhibition area exceeding 370,000 square meters (about 4 million square feet) for the first time.
