(ECNS) -- U.S. investment in China rose by 7.7% year on year in the first nine months of 2026, while investment from France and Switzerland increased by 31.8% and 26%, respectively, Vice Commerce Minister Jiang Chenghua said Thursday.
Investment from Hong Kong, South Korea, Luxembourg and Canada also grew during the period.
More than 47,000 new foreign-invested enterprises were established in China in the first nine months. China utilized 548.81 billion yuan in foreign investment, down 4.3% year on year, with the rate of decline narrowing by 6.1 percentage points compared with the same period last year. Combined imports and exports by foreign-invested enterprises reached $1.7 trillion, up 24.1%.
Reinvestment of profits by foreign-invested enterprises totaled 93.99 billion yuan, up 4.7% year on year, with its share rising by 1.5 percentage points from a year earlier. Reinvestment projects in artificial intelligence, biomedicine, aerospace and green chemicals continued to progress.
Investment in high-tech industries rose 33.8% year on year, accounting for 41.6% of total foreign investment utilized. Investment in energy-saving, environmental protection and clean-energy industries increased 11.1%. A number of foreign-invested zero-carbon factories have also been established, all powered by green electricity.
Investment in digital economy sectors grew 7% year on year. Multinational companies are expanding their online channels in response to consumer trends in China, developing social commerce and applying business experience gained in the Chinese market to overseas operations. Investment in research, development and design services increased 59.2%.
Multinational companies are also establishing global innovation hubs in China and applying innovations developed in the Chinese market to their operations worldwide. Some have issued panda bonds (yuan-denominated bonds issued by foreign entities in China's domestic market) to fund their operations in China.
