(ECNS) -- The 2026 West Bund International Tech Consumer Carnival (WTCC 2026) opened in Shanghai on Thursday, bringing together more than 400 technology brands from around the world and showcasing AI-powered products for healthcare, childcare and other consumer sectors.
Chen Hongyuan, co-founder and chief financial officer of Shenzhen-based E3A Healthcare, said the parent company was established in Singapore in 2019 and initially focused on medical device innovation before expanding its use of artificial intelligence (AI) in product development.
The team has developed an AI model for use with a smart fetal monitor to predict the onset of labor. It is also developing a device to relieve menstrual pain using neuromodulation (techniques that alter nerve activity) and AI-driven adaptive algorithms, Chen said.
AI is also creating new opportunities for traditional businesses. At the event, Nie Ning, a staff member at Ningbo-based Mamibao, demonstrated a smart crib to overseas visitors. Its camera monitors infants in real time and alerts caregivers if a baby's nose or mouth is obstructed, indicating a risk of suffocation.
Nie said the parent company had operated for decades in the mother-and-baby products market, previously manufacturing products for well-known overseas brands. In recent years, it has launched its own brand and expanded into higher-end, technology-focused products. The smart crib is already sold in mainland China and Dubai.
At the SenseTime booth, staff member Lu Zishuang said an AI agent developed by the company was evolving from a conversational tool into a productivity tool, with growing applications in fields such as healthcare and education.
Official data showed that in the first three quarters of 2026, retail sales of smart wearable devices by businesses above China's designated statistical threshold rose by more than 70% year on year, while retail sales at unmanned stores grew by more than 25%.
