(ECNS) -- China produced 12.483 million new-energy vehicles and sold 12.472 million units in the first three quarters of 2026, up 11% and 11.1% year on year, respectively.
The figures show that China’s auto exports maintained rapid growth while domestic NEV sales kept climbing.
In September, China’s auto output reached 2.99 million units and sales reached 2.956 million units, up 11.4% and 9% month on month but down 8.7% and 8.4% year on year. NEV production hit 1.814 million units and sales reached 1.823 million units, up 12.2% and 13.6% year on year. NEVs accounted for 61.6% of total new car sales for the month.
Auto exports stood at 1.053 million units in September, up 4.2% month on month and 61.4% year on year. These included 571,000 NEVs, up 8.6% month on month and 160% year on year.
From January to September, China exported 8.205 million vehicles, up 65.8% year on year, including 4.006 million NEVs, up 130% year on year. NEVs made up more than 50% of China’s total auto exports for four straight months.
Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, expected stable performance for the auto sector in the fourth quarter. Exports will likely keep rising and may exceed 10 million units.
With funds for consumer goods trade-in programs fully disbursed and support from consumption-boosting campaigns, declines in domestic auto sales are expected to ease.
