(ECNS) -- The 1st Global Challenge for Innovation in Embodied AI Applications and the 2026 China Robot Competition will be held concurrently in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, from Oct. 16 to 18, organizers said on Monday.

The two events will be held concurrently for the first time. The competition series features 22 tracks, 60 contest categories and three standalone corporate challenges. It provides an integrated platform for technology research and development, engineering validation and real-world applications, said Zheng Zhiqiang, director of the Robot Competition Working Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, at a news conference in Hangzhou.

The China Robot Competition, one of China's most influential competitions in automation and robotics, is expanding its focus this year as the industry enters the era of embodied robotics.

Building on existing categories, the competition will feature 17 embodied AI events designed around practical applications and real-world environments, covering areas including flexible sorting, air-ground collaboration, badminton matches and dexterous manipulation.

"Embodied intelligence is a key innovation focus of this year's competition. It is not simply about getting a robot to perform a predefined action," said Li Xingteng, deputy general manager of Hangzhou Embodied Intelligence Application Pilot Testing Base Co.

"Instead, robots must use their own perception, movement and manipulation capabilities to understand tasks, detect changes in real-world environments, make decisions and carry out actions continuously," Li said.
