(ECNS) -- Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is expected to handle an average of about 58,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips a day during the 140th China Import and Export Fair, known as the Canton Fair, up 13.6% from a year earlier, CCTV News reported Tuesday.
The fair will be held in three phases in Guangzhou from Oct. 15 to Nov. 4, with overseas buyers and exhibitors arriving through Baiyun airport, one of the main entry points for international visitors to the city. Daily traffic could exceed 64,000 at its peak.
Bookings for international flights have risen 5% to 20% in recent days, with a notable increase among foreign travelers, the airport's border inspection station said.
The station forecasts international passenger flights will average about 313 a day during the fair, up about 17.6%.
To speed border clearance, the station has introduced several measures. Overseas buyers and exhibitors can use dedicated channels for expedited clearance by presenting their Canton Fair credentials and valid travel documents. Travelers who submit their entry information online in advance can significantly reduce waiting times at the airport.
Eligible foreign nationals can also use China's 240-hour visa-free transit policy, subject to requirements.
The airport will continue to offer an on-arrival service to help overseas buyers obtain credentials, with three service points in the international arrivals halls of Terminals 2 and 3 and at a hotel near the airport.
The service is free, and signs will guide travelers from arrival exits to the service points, the airport said.
