(ECNS) -- The China-Laos Railway has handled more than 80 million passenger trips since it began operations in December 2021, China Railway Kunming Group said on Friday.
Monthly passenger trips along the line have risen from 600,000 in its early days to a peak of 2.25 million, according to the company.

Railway authorities have introduced dedicated ticket counters for international passengers, enabled payments with overseas bank cards at 13 passenger stations in China and expanded ticketing options for foreign travelers. Mohan Station in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, also offers cash withdrawal services in Chinese yuan. Ticketing systems and online payment options have been improved on the Lao section.
The railway has also helped link tourist destinations in Yunnan Province and Laos, making rail travel an increasingly popular option for cross-border tourism. Since the start of 2026, it has handled 270,000 cross-border passenger trips, up 36.6 percent from a year earlier, according to the company.
