(ECNS) — Freight trains running on Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe have carried 200,460 twenty-foot equivalent units, or TEUs, of imports and exports so far this year, Hangzhou Customs in Zhejiang Province said Thursday, citing data through Wednesday.
Yiwu Railway Port functions as the starting station for the freight route and the departure port of the Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan sea-rail intermodal transport channel.
Hangzhou Customs has optimized clearance services for the freight trains. In the first eight months of this year, it helped enterprises reduce domestic railway freight costs by 8.51 million yuan ($1.17 million).
The freight route operates 27 lines covering more than 160 cities in more than 50 countries and regions across Asia and Europe, ranking first in outbound cargo volume among all China-Europe freight services in the Yangtze River Delta.
The service is shifting from point-to-point delivery to hub-centered and network-based transportation, with a continuously optimized cargo structure.
This year, outbound cargo mainly consists of electronic products, solar modules and smart devices, while return trains primarily carry production raw materials and consumer goods.
