(ECNS) — The original dance drama “Wong Fei Hung” will premiere in Hong Kong in July 2027 before a planned world tour, the West Kowloon Cultural District’s performing arts center said Thursday.
The production brings together producers and artists from Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangdong and overseas to reinterpret the legendary martial artist and physician through contemporary stage art.
Drawing on the Lingnan cultural traditions of Foshan, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, the work explores Wong’s values of compassion, integrity and mentorship.
The team said the production combines traditional martial arts with contemporary dance to create a visually striking performance with emotional depth.
The team hopes to use Hong Kong’s role as an international arts hub and the Greater Bay Area’s established performing arts market to reach audiences across the Chinese mainland and overseas.
