Recently, the Philippines, taking advantage of its role as co-chair of the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus Experts' Working Group on Maritime Security, teamed up with extra-regional countries for joint military exercises in the waters and airspace near Huangyan Dao. It also sent a resupply vessel to deliver supplies to its illegally grounded warship at Ren'ai Jiao, and deliberately rammed a China Coast Guard vessel near Xianbin Jiao.
Before the dust had even settled, the Japanese Embassy in the Philippines rushed to distort the facts and condemn China's lawful rights protection and law enforcement.
The Philippines is the provocateur; Japan is the instigator egging it on. Together, they are trying to turn the South China Sea into a stage for their own agendas.
Japan hopes to exploit South China Sea issue to contain China and revive its old dream of military expansion. But the South China Sea is no playground for outside powers. China has indisputable sovereignty over Xianbin Jiao, Huangyan Dao and their adjacent waters.
Those seeking to cross the line and grab what is not theirs will gain nothing—and may only end up embarrassing themselves.
