Commemoration of International Day of Peace 2026 opens in Wuhan

(ECNS) -- The Commemoration of International Day of Peace 2026 opened in Wuhan on Monday, gathering more than 300 delegates from 60 countries to promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and global solidarity.

Held under the theme “Meeting Challenges Together for a Peaceful World,” the event was organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament and the Hubei Provincial People’s Government.

Participants included foreign political leaders, peace advocates, scholars, and diplomatic envoys. UN Secretary-General António Guterres also delivered a video address.

Peng Qinghua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and President of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament, expressed readiness to work with the international community to implement major global initiatives and uphold the international order. Foreign delegates echoed calls for inclusive dialogue to help build a community with a shared future for humanity.

The opening ceremony featured cultural presentations blending traditional philosophy with AI technology to promote peace and friendship.
