(ECNS) -- Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong ranked among the world's top 10 tourism cities in the World Tourism Cities Development Report (2025-2026), released at the 2026 World Tourism Cooperation and Development Conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
The conference, held during the 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), brought together more than 400 participants from over 50 countries and regions.
The report assessed 100 tourism cities worldwide across six dimensions: city visibility, industry prosperity, urban intelligence, tourism safety, economic contribution and tourist satisfaction.
The top 10 cities were New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Milan, Istanbul and Dubai.
Nine of the top 20 cities are in the Asia-Pacific region, which the report said has made strong progress in areas including visa facilitation, aviation connectivity, digital services, safety governance and innovation in cultural consumption. Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong entered the global top 10, while Hangzhou and Chengdu ranked among the top 20. China had the largest number of cities represented on the list.
The report noted that the global tourism city landscape is shifting away from a traditional Europe- and U.S.-centered pattern toward increasingly diverse competition across multiple regions and tiers.
