(ECNS) -- The poetic dance drama "A Tapestry of a Legendary Land" (also known as "Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting") returned to New York for its third U.S. tour and second engagement in the city, with performances running from Friday to Sunday at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.

The dance drama is inspired by "A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains" (or "A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains"), a Northern Song Dynasty masterpiece housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing. Through a time-bending narrative, the production tells the story behind the painting and the artisans whose dedication brought it to life. Through dance, the performance transforms the scroll's layered landscapes into a contemporary stage interpretation, conveying an aesthetic sensibility and spirit of craftsmanship shaped by the Chinese people's connection with nature.

The dance drama previously completed two North American tours. It made its U.S. debut in late 2024, visiting New York and San Diego. In the summer of 2025, it embarked on a multi-city North American tour, stopping in Vancouver, Seattle, Los Angeles and Houston.

As a key national cultural export project, "A Tapestry of a Legendary Land" uses dance — a universal art form — to foster people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States. The production has appeared on major international stages, bringing Chinese cultural heritage and aesthetics to audiences around the world.

Following the New York performances, the Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts is scheduled to stage its original folk dance drama "Dream of the Red Chamber" from Sept. 11 to 13, bringing the "Masterpieces from China" series of outstanding Chinese productions to a close.
