82-year-old Chinese athlete wins world masters title in 80m hurdles

(ECNS) -- China's Ding Ming, aged 82, won the men's 80-meter hurdles title in 15.99 seconds in the M80 final at the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, on Tuesday.

Competing in the men's 80-84 age category, Ding also set a new Asian record for the event.

Japanese athletes finished second and third, clocking 16.15 seconds and 16.53 seconds, respectively.

According to a report published by Changsha Sports on May 19, Ding is known as an all-around athlete. He won four gold medals at the 2019 Asian Masters Athletics Championships.

At the 2026 Chinese Masters Athletics Championships in May, Ding competed in the high jump, shot put and 80-meter hurdles, winning the hurdles title in 16.73 seconds.
