2.“Ne Zha 2” becomes China's all-time top-grossing film

Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 secured the top position on the box office chart in the history of China film on Saturday with about 7 billion yuan ($960 million), box office tracker Beacon data showed.

The film, directed by Yang Yu, focuses on the hero’s struggles and growth. Its stunning visuals and engaging storyline have impressed audiences, making it rate above 95 percent of animations on Douban, a popular Chinese film review platform.

4.China has never demanded enterprises collect data illegally, says FM on S. Korean DeepSeek bans

Chinese government attaches great importance to and legally protects data privacy and security. China has never demanded, nor will it require, enterprises or individuals to collect or store data in an illegal manner, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized on Thursday.

Guo made the remarks in response to some ministries in South Korea blocking access to DeepSeek, following the banning of the Chinese AI firm in several other countries, including Italy, Australia, India, the US, and Japan, as well as by some companies.

5.Cute panda twins meet media in Hong Kong

The first Hong Kong-born giant panda twins met the media on Thursday. They will make their public debut on Feb. 16, 2025, a day after they turn six months. The pair weighed 11 kilograms now.

6.New animation of 'The Little Prince' set for release in 2026

A new animation of “The Little Prince” will be released in China in the second half of 2026, according to Shanghai-based producers El Pajaro Pictures and Stars Collective on Wednesday.

Employing a hybrid animation approach that blends 2D watercolor techniques with 3D oil painting aesthetics, the new adaptation will present the author’s life from 1940 to 1944 alongside the little prince’s whimsical world.

The movie will be directed by Li Jihong, whose translation of “The Little Prince” in 2013 has sold over six million copies to date.

7.Letter X captured on the Moon

A letter X is captured on the Moon's surface through telescopes for several hours around the time of the 1st quarter moon on Wednesday. When sunlight hit the rim of a crater on the moon, an X-shaped appeared on the moon.

8.New plant species found in south China's Guangxi

Chinese researchers have discovered a new species of Manchurian Dutchman's pipe stem in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local forestry authorities announced on Thursday. Discovery of this new species provides fresh insights into the flora of the genus Aristolochiaceae and its medicinal and economic value.

10.China cracks 73,000 cross-border gambling cases in 2024

Chinese police investigated 73,000 cross-border gambling and related cases last year, dismantling over 4,500 online gambling platforms, according to the Ministry of Public Security on Thursday.

In 2024, public security departments nationwide disrupted multiple networks and underground banks operating for gambling groups overseas, the ministry said in a statement, adding that they also conducted four operations targeting 45 major cross-border gambling cases, which led to the capture of more than 11,000 suspects.
