(ECNS) -- The Chinese Embassy in Canada reiterated on Friday that China consistently adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and denied rumors about “malicious activity” targeting Canadian federal Liberal Party leadership candidate Chrystia Freeland.
Previously, Canadian media outlet Rapid Response Mechanism Canada reported that a local government department had tracked a “malicious activity” targeting Freeland and claimed the activity had been traced to a WeChat account linked to the Chinese government.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Canada stressed that it is absurd and makes no sense to attack and smear China merely based on the fabricated remarks of some so-called experts. “China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposes this,” the spokesperson said.
The Liberal Party of Canada's leadership race is the country’s internal affairs and China has no interests in interfering in it, the spokesperson noted.
China firmly opposes linking Canada's internal affairs with China-related factors, hyping up the unfounded "China interference", and maliciously discrediting and smearing China, which is not helpful for the healthy and stable development of China-Canada relations, he added.
