Police officer Yang Fuming has a habit of reading aloud for 10 minutes every day to help maintain his verbal communication skills in Xingyi County, Southwest China’s Guizhou Province. Yang has secured the Qingshui River Railway Bridge for 12 years and he will retire in May. Local police authorities had suggested Yang spend Spring Festival, China’s Lunar New Year, with his family, but Yang insisted on working the holiday, saying “this is my last duty and I feel bad to leave earlier”. As the bridge is located in a remote area, Yang is the only police officer in the area, and he often feels alone, so he has a habit of reading aloud for 10 minutes every day to help maintain his verbal communication skills.
