At the foot of Mt. Qomolangma, there is a group of people called "Pendeba," which means people who work to benefit others in Tibetan. In 2009, Tsering Norbu launched Pendeba Society, sponsored by Qomolangma National Nature Reserve. It aims to promote sustainable development of natural reserves through civil power and to promote community participation in environmental protection. The society has more than 400 members, most of whom are farmers and herders.
