This photo taken on May 8, 2017 shows sculptures of Fuxi, a culture hero in Chinese legends and mythology and Meng Haoran, a Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet, are being carved from stone at an abandoned stone pit in Xiangyang City, Central China’s Hubei Province. Standing at 50 meters tall and 90 meters long, Meng's sculpture is accompanied by his poetry, carved on the rock. Fuxi's sculpture is 70.5 meters tall and 230 meters long, with eyes nine meters wide and two meters tall and a nose 18 meters long and nine meters wide. The stone pit itself was a blight on the otherwise beautiful landscape, so local authorities decided to carve out sculptures to increase its tourist appeal. (Photo/VCG)
