A road traverses the Qiangtang prairie, one of the five largest expanses of pastureland in China as well as home to a range of rare wildlife. The Nyainqentanglha Mountains, one of the major ranges on China's Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, form the ridge dividing the Yarlung Zangbo and Nujiang river basins.
