The deck of China’s 55 km-long Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge was fully joined up on Sept. 27, officially making it the longest cross-sea bridge in the world. Just 20 years ago this would have been unthinkable as China was still trying to build a bridge with a span of 400 meters. Today bridges over 1 km in length are nothing unusual in the country. China is home to over half of the world’s longest span suspension bridges, cable-stayed bridges, steel arch bridges, and cross-sea bridges.
