Shadow puppet artist Zhang Kui makes shadow puppets at home in Tianjin, north China, June 5, 2016. Zhang Kui, who was born in 1937, is now an inheritor of shadow puppets. He has depended on performing shadow puppets for living for 68 years since his childhood. "My father had 38 shadow boxes, my brother performed and I carved the shadow puppets," said the inheritor when he recalled his childhood. Nowadays, fewer people like the shadow puppet performance. Zhang Kui once had two apprentices, but both of them finally gave up and carried out other profitable business. The unmarried octogenarian faltering craftsman is now living alone in a shanty room in Jixian County of Tianjin, but he still sticks to making shadow puppets and has stored more than 1,000 pieces of paper shadow puppet templates.
