According to statistics, in Henan, every 4,870 children have one pediatrician, far below the national level. In People's Hospital, one of the best hospitals in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, the pediatric department, which receives hundreds of patients daily, has 30 doctors in total. The lack of the pediatricians is even worse in the rural areas. The number of pediatricians in China dropped from 105,000 to around 100,000 within five years, according to China's public health statistical yearbook in 2015. On average, there are only 43 doctors per 100,000 children.
