“Bakugai(爆買い),” a Japanese phrase used to describe the shopping spree carried out by Chinese tourists in Japan is selected as one of the most memorable buzzwords in Japan on December 1, 2015. Japanese media coined the phrase to describe the hordes of Chinese visitors shopping in the Ginza during the weeklong Chinese New Year holiday in February this year. Chinese tourists purchase more than 60 billion yen ($488 million) of goods in Japan with China’s UnionPay bank cards during the recent Spring Festival holiday, a 250 percent year-on-year. A total of 10 phrases were selected as winners of the 2015 U-Can Shingo Ryukogo Taisho (2015 U-Can New Words and Buzzwords Awards), announced by the Jiyukokuminsha publishing house in Tokyo on Monday.(Photo: China News Service/Wang Jian)
