Veteran Cai Yupeng was born July 5, 1921, and joined the army in 1937. He fought in battles in Kunming and returned to his hometown to work as a farmer in 1946. Photographer Li Lu took photos of 30 veterans from April to August and asked them to pose with a model of a rifle, a weapon used by many Chinese soldiers during the war. (Photo/Li Lu)
