Immature fish are dumped after they die en masse of unknown causes at Touhao village in Xiantao city, Central China’s Hubei province. Farmers in the village started raising fry in 2008 and have fishponds covering 4000 mu (266 hectares). May is the selling month and the fish price has risen to 17 yuan ($2.7) this year, but a large number of the fish have died unexpectedly, resulting in an economic loss of 50 million yuan ($8 million).
