In April 1963, Soong Ching Ling, the wife of renowned Chinese revolutionary and statesman Sun Yat-sen, moved into No. 46, Houhaibeiyan, a courtyard where she spent the last eighteen years of her life.

There, she conversed with the world and tirelessly advocated for peace; there, she devoted herself to the welfare of women and children, safeguarding the hope of the future...

After she passed away, the courtyard that carried her ideals and glory, was named by the government as "Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling, Honorary President of the People's Republic of China."

Beneath the phoenix tree, her ideals remain evergreen; along the path to great harmony, her footsteps never ceased.

Today, the dreams of peace, of the future, and of a better China have long been woven into the very bricks, tiles, grass, and trees of this place, glowing with eternal brilliance in quietude.
