China's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 5.3 percent year on year in the first half of 2025, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed. In the latest W.E. Talk, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) Navid Hanif noted that despite a weak global outlook and rising trade tensions, China’s focus on high-value manufacturing, green technologies, targeted fiscal and accommodative monetary policies has unlocked domestic demand and advanced sustainability and poverty alleviation, offering valuable lessons for the world.
