The 10th China Cold Pole Marathon kicked off on Sunday in Genhe City, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, attracting nearly 1,000 running enthusiasts from China and Mongolia who competed in temperatures as low as minus 38 degrees Celsius.
The event featured a half marathon and a 5km race, with participants running on snow-covered high-altitude mountains despite the cold weather.
Genhe, located at the latitude of 50 to 52 degrees north, west of the Greater Hinggan Mountains, is known as China's pole of cold.
