Zhongxiang City in central China's Hubei Province is a hometown of longevity in Chinese history.
In 2008, Zhongxiang was honored as one of the first "Towns of Longevity in China." In May 2015, it was recognized as a "World Longevity Area" at the 4th International Conference on Population Aging.
As of December 2022, there were 118 people over 100 years old in Zhongxiang. Zhongxiang has formed a complete longevity allowance system for older people.
A monthly allowance of 1,000 yuan will be given to each centenarian, and an additional 30 yuan will be provided for each other year after the 100th birthday.
Zhongxiang People's Hospital provides regular check-ups for the elderly. Village doctors visit the elderly every month to check for basic diseases.
