The traditional fire dragon dance has been performed on a 200-meter-high viewing platform in southwest China's Chongqing municipality.
A colorful Tongliang dragon, named after the Tongliang District of Chongqing, jumped, rolled, and hovered in the sky. The dragon was made of hay and moved by performers with bundles of burning sticks inserted in the dragon's head, body, and tail. The Tongliang dragon dance has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage since 2006.
In Chongqing, the Tongliang dragon dance recreates a centuries-old ritual. It is believed the dragon can drive away evil spirits and bring good fortune.
