19th Chinese peacekeeping detachment to Lebanon awarded in Yunnan

(ECNS) -- Officers and soldiers of the 19th Chinese peacekeeping multi-functional engineering detachment to Lebanon were awarded in Yunnan recently.

The detachment was deployed to Lebanon in August 2020.

Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, explosions, and armed conflicts, the officers and soldiers of the detachment completed reconstruction mission of Beirut port after a massive explosion took place in the city.

They cleared a mine area of 13,701 square meters, discovering and destroying 2,261 mines and setting a new record for the highest number of mines cleared in a single day and a single batch.

In June 2021, all 180 officers and soldiers of the detachment were awarded the UN Peace Medal of Honor.
