(ECNS) -- Li Xiaoyang, a young man professionalized in mural restoration, is cleaning the dirt on murals in Juehuang Hall of Mingjiao Temple in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

Li Xiaoyang grew up in the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, where many murals were restored by his grandfather Li Yunhe. Now he has taken the baton from his grandfather.

Li Yunhe, a master in mural restoration, has restored nearly 4,000 square meters of murals in 60 years.

Influenced by his grandfather, the young man returned to Dunhuang Academy after graduation and stepped into mural restoration.

The mural that Li is restoring is located in the Juehuang Hall of Mingjiao Temple, which was established in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The Juehuang Hall has been repaired and reconstructed for several times since its establishment.

It was once used as a school, so many murals inside it were covered with lime.

Some murals suffered from staples or were deformed by the inclination of the whole building.

Therefore, Li , carrying a dozen tools, travelled long distances to Chengdu to restore these murals.
