(ECNS) -- A diving themed event in Hainan will offer tourists opportunities to observe coral transplantation.
Wu Zhongjie, director of the Institute of Marine Ecology at Hainan Academy of Ocean and Fisheries Sciences, along with others, dived deep into the sea and planted several nurseries of corals.
Corals are mostly symbiotic with zooxanthellae, Wu said.
They grow slowly and need to be fixed on artificial reefs or iron cages, otherwise they will be washed away by surges, he added.
