(ECNS) -- Philippe Klein is a general practitioner at Wuhan Union Hospital International Outpatient Department.

After living in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, for nearly eight years, Klein calls the city home.

In 2020, when the epidemic was the most severe in Wuhan, Klein sent his wife and children back to France while he stayed in the city to diagnose and treat other foreigners there.

Recalling the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic last year, Klein said "I understood that what the Chinese did was the best. You have to stop the virus and then control it to keep it from coming back."

Klein was awarded a permanent residence permit in China , which he said was "a surprise" and "the supreme honor."

In March, he was given China's COVID-19 vaccine. Klein said the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine has been proven reliable.

He encouraged his friends to invest in or visit Wuhan. We should learn from Wuhan's experience in fighting the epidemic, Klein said on Monday in a promotional video for Hubei.

Only by sharing wisdom, openness, inclusiveness and solidarity can human beings find common ground, Klein said.
