(ECNS) -- A video showing an elephant behaving strangely has stirred up discussion on the Internet. Many suspect the animal, located in Taiyuan Zoo, Shanxi Province, of being depressed.

In the video, the elephant keeps shaking its head and trunk, while rubbing its hips against the wall at the same time.

A witness said such behavior has been seen several times.

A zoo worker on Thursday denied the so-called depression of the 26-year-old Asian elephant, saying that was stereotypical behavior commonly seen in animals held in captivity.

Environmental and nutritional enrichment will be provided to encourage natural behavior, according to the zoo.
