(ECNS) -- Altogether 9,478 people set a new Guinness World Record for the most people making zongzi, or sticky rice dumplings, in Zigui County of Central China's Hubei Province.

The attendees aged from 5 to 70 wrapped over 16,400 zongzi in 8 minutes, with 2,000 kg of sticky rice and 4,000 leaves.

The event was held ahead of the annual Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 7 this year.

The festival is celebrated with various activities such as zongzi making and dragon boat races to commemorate the ancient patriotic poet Qu Yuan.
