At least 43 people, including 15 children, have been confirmed dead in the devastating floods in central Texas, USA, local authorities said on Saturday, as the search continued for dozens of missing campers, vacationers and residents.
More than 850 people had been rescued, including some who were clinging to trees, according to officials. Among the missing were 27 girls from the Camp Mystic summer camp.
Video footage showed vehicles, campers and mobile homes being swept away as the Guadalupe River surged through Kerr County. Bodies were discovered in cars that had been carried downstream from upstream areas.
The Guadalupe River in the county saw its water levels rise from 2.3 meters to a staggering 9 meters within just three hours early Friday morning, reaching the second-highest level on record, according to the US National Weather Service.
