All of the 30 missing firefighters during a firefighting operation in Muli Tibetan Autonomous County, southwest China's Sichuan Province, have been confirmed dead.

They went missing as they combated a forest fire that flared up on Sunday after a sudden change in wind direction.

A total of 689 people are still battling to contain the blaze.

The fire first erupted at around 6:00 p.m. BJT on Saturday at several locations on a cliff by the Yalong River, which is about a six-to-seven-hour drive from Muli County in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture.

The altitude of the fire is reported at around 4,000 meters.
