At least six people were confirmed dead and 15 others wounded in a blast that rocked Kabul on Monday, police spokesman Basir Majahid said.

"Six people lost their lives and 15 others injured in the blast here today," Majahid told Xinhua.

The spokesman did not provide more details, saying an investigation was underway.

The blast, obviously a suicide attack, occurred at 1:30 p.m. local time (0900 GMT) in Malik Asghar square, an area close the presidential palace, the foreign ministry, two shopping malls and a hotel frequented by foreigners and government officials.

No group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
