A Didi Chuxing driver is in hot water after a passenger expecting a complimentary bottled water was instead treated to a gulp of his urine.

The passenger surnamed Sun hailed the driver through the app on Tuesday in Shanghai.

Parched, Sun reached for the bottle in the car's center console, where some Didi drivers provide free bottled water for passengers.

Unfortunately, Sun had stumbled across a well-known phenomenon among taxi and rideshare drivers: when nature calls and you're stuck with nowhere to go, grab a bottle.

Sun told Guangdong-based news app he had noticed the bottle cap was loose before drinking. "But the driver shook it and said 'it's a full bottle, maybe the previous passenger opened it but didn't drink,'" he said.

Sun took a swig, only to learn the bitter truth too late. He immediately spat it and required explanation from the driver, itouchTV reported.

The driver became emotional and asked Sun to settle the case privately, saying he would lose the job if the incident was reported to the company.

Regardless, Sun contacted Didi, which has banned the driver.

"The driver urinated in the water bottle because he couldn't find a toilet," a company spokesperson told thepaper.cn.

Didi employees also accompanied Sun for a medical checkup and is still handling the case, thepaper.cn reported.
